André Lévy (1894-1982) was a French cellist, a pupil of Jules Leopold-Loeb who also taught André Navarra. As a soloist, he gave the premieres of several French pieces. Besides, he was also a member of Trio Capet and Quatuor Hewitt. The LP set of his Bach's Cello Suites, issued by LUMEN, has long been one of the most valuable recordings ever in the history.
"この演奏は決して重心の低い表現ではないが淀みなく流れの良いバッハで生々しくも高雅な響きが素晴しい。"
——佐久間孝
